Each assignment is split roughly between derivations\/proofs, and coding exercises.\u00a0However, you will not have to write this code <em>\u201cfrom scratch\u201d<\/em>\u2014for each assignment we will provide a code skeleton and ask you to implement critical routines that have been removed.\u00a0Since this class tends to be a fairly diverse mix, we suggest that folks with a strong coding background seek out those with a strong math background and vice versa.\u00a0However, <em>your final work must be your own!<\/em> To receive credit, assignments must be handed in by <strong>5:59:59 PM Eastern time<\/strong> on the due date (see further handin instructions below).<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/brickisland.net\/DDGSpring2021\/category\/assignments\/?order=desc\">Click here for a list of all assignments released so far.<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Reading<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>Periodically we will ask you to read from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.cmu.edu\/~kmcrane\/Projects\/DGPDEC\/paper.pdf\">course notes<\/a> or from other sources online. To encourage you to think more deeply about this material, we will ask you to send us an writeup for each reading consisting of<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>a short (2-3 sentence) summary of what you read, and<\/li>\r\n<li>at least one question or comment about something you found interesting and\/or confusing.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p>Writing this summary will also help you prepare for our in-class discussion. Summaries should be submitted as a PDF via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmu.edu\/teaching\/gradescope\/\">Gradescope<\/a>. You should just need to submit two files for each assignment: <tt>solution.zip<\/tt> and <tt>exercises.pdf<\/tt>.<\/li>\r\n<li>Feedback on written assignments will provided as a marked-up PDF.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong><u>Late policy:<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0You may take up to <strong>5 total late days<\/strong> over the course of the semester, no questions asked. Note that illness, interviews, and unexpected life occurrences are already covered under these 5 late days. All subsequent late assignments will receive a zero. Reading summaries must be turned in on time to receive credit (no late days can be used here).
