{"id":39,"date":"2019-01-17T08:39:26","date_gmt":"2019-01-17T08:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brickisland.net\/DDGSpring2024\/?page_id=39"},"modified":"2024-01-28T14:43:23","modified_gmt":"2024-01-28T19:43:23","slug":"assignments","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/brickisland.net\/DDGSpring2024\/assignments\/","title":{"rendered":"Assignments"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Written\/Coding Assignments<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>Roughly every two weeks you will implement some kind of numerical algorithm for working with geometry. \u00a0An important part of this exercise will be deriving the algorithms, starting from the smooth geometric point of view that we will discuss in class. \u00a0Each assignment is split roughly between derivations\/proofs, and coding exercises. \u00a0However, you will not have to write this code <em>\u201cfrom scratch\u201d<\/em>\u2014for each assignment we will provide a code skeleton and ask you to implement critical routines that have been removed. \u00a0Since this class tends to be a fairly diverse mix, we suggest that folks with a strong coding background seek out those with a strong math background and vice versa. \u00a0However, <em>your final work must be your own!<\/em> To receive credit, assignments must be handed in by <strong>5:59:59 PM Eastern time<\/strong> on the due date (see further handin instructions below).<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/brickisland.net\/DDGSpring2024\/category\/assignments\/?order=desc\">Click here for a list of all assignments released so far.<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Reading<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>Periodically we will ask you to read from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.cmu.edu\/~kmcrane\/Projects\/DGPDEC\/paper.pdf\">course notes<\/a> or from other sources online. \u00a0To encourage you to think more deeply about this material, we will ask you to write a response to each reading consisting of<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>a short (2-3 sentence) summary of what you read, and<\/li>\r\n<li>at least one question or comment about something you found interesting and\/or confusing.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p>Writing this summary will also help you prepare for our in-class discussion. \u00a0<b>Summaries should be uploaded to Gradescope<\/b>. \u00a0To receive credit, you must upload your summary by <strong>10:00 AM Eastern time<\/strong> on the day of lecture.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/brickisland.net\/DDGSpring2024\/category\/readings\/?order=desc\">Click here for a list of all readings so far.<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Homework Submission<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Assignments are due by <strong>5:59:59 PM Eastern time<\/strong> on the due date<\/li>\r\n<li>All homework must be submitted digitally using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gradescope.com\/\">GradeScope<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li>Put all source files in a <strong>single zip file<\/strong> called <tt>solution.zip<\/tt>. <\/li>\r\n<li>All written exercises must be digitized for submission, and uploaded to Gradescope. We won\u2019t accept physical paper submissions.\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>You can either typeset your answers (using, <em>e.g.<\/em>, LaTeX) or include scans\/photos of your written work.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>Feedback on your written assignment will be sent back to you via GradeScope<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong><u>Late policy:<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0You may take up to <strong>5 total late days<\/strong> over the course of the semester, no questions asked. \u00a0All subsequent late assignments will receive a zero. Reading summaries must be turned in on time to receive credit (no late days can be used here).
