Lecture 2A: What is a “Mesh”?

In this lecture we’ll really start from the beginning, and define some of the basic objects we’ll use throughout the class. In particular, we’ll look at the idea of a “mesh,” and study one very specific kind of mesh called an oriented simplicial complex.

  1. I understand that the empty set is trivially a complex set and is thus also a simplex. Does it still fit into the k-complex definition? If so, is the empty set a (-1)-simplex?
